The 40th Anniversary Pingu Exhibition

Everybody’s favorite claymation penguin is turning 40! To celebrate, I went to the 40th Anniversary Pingu Exhibition in Osaka, Japan. Although originally created for Swiss television, Pingu has long been loved in Japan, and in 2017 the series was rebooted as Pingu in the City by Japanese computer animation studio Polygon Pictures. The 40th Anniversary Exhibition focuses primarily on the Swiss-made claymation series, including actual clay models and sets from original episodes, genuine sketches, storyboards, film strips, and videos showing the intricate process of bringing Pingu and his companions to life. (Unfortunately much of the exhibit did not allow photography!)

I forgot to take photos of the gift shop but these were my purchases!

The 40th Anniversary Pingu Exhibition will be held at Osaka Umeda Daimaru (13th floor) through February 23, 2021.
